We all long for better health, but it seems at times it’s so unavailable to us. We go to our doctors, thinking that they’re going to help us figure it all out, and we either get pills, or we get to feeling like it’s our fault. That if only we ate better or changed our lifestyle or whatever it is. And no matter what we seem to do, the changes we make don’t really always seem to help.
If you’ve got any type of chronic pain or illness, you know what I’m talking about. And all you really want to know is how to fix it, how to get better. And you get frustrated with the drugs that don’t do anything and their side effects. Oh, my gosh! Have you ever listened to those commercials? I don’t know why anyone takes some of those things. Those drugs on TV and the commercials that go on and on. They see my four minute commercials talking about the side effects of a drug. Perhaps you’ve seen that joke going around the internet. There are variations. But the most recent one I saw was showed a man in a doctor’s office. The doctor’s handing him a large stack of paper and he says: “That pop prescription is for your arthritis. But it may cause a heart attack. So that second prescription could prevent a heart attack, but it could damage your liver. The third should prevent liver trouble, but it may destroy your spleen. The fourth protects your spleen, but it’s been known to eat away the prostate. The fifth…” Well I think you get the idea.
Sometimes it feels that way, right? And all the drugs haven’t made you feel better. As a matter of fact, you’re feeling worse now because of all the medication in your system. And you know, deep down, that your body’s problem was never that it lacked any of those drugs because they’re not natural. They’re all made by man.
And if you’ve been on this treadmill for long enough, you begin to realize there’s got to be a better way. And that my friend this were Self Powered Healing comes in. In a way I’ve been doing it in some form for most of my life. When I started having migraines at 16, I never saw a doctor forum I didn’t even know they were migraines at the time. I figured it out pretty fast, though, by looking at what a change. They started in the Fall, on the first day of my junior year in high school. With the start of school, I went back to wearing perfumes. In the summer I was swimming and very active and never wore perfume.
By day two, I had this inner knowing or realization that the perfume was the problem. So the next day, I didn’t wear it, and I had no migraine. Over the weekend, I gave it a test and put some on. And sure enough, there was that migraine again.
Since then, I’ve spent my life avoiding fragrances and chemicals. But what if I had gone to a doctor? Well, for one, I would have continued to wear the perfume, not realizing, perhaps, that it was the source of my problem. And the doctors would have given me who knows what drugs I gave back in the 70s for migraines. But I’ve seen the stories of people that have been on the migraine treadmill for years and years trying to solve their problems. And it’s drug after drug after drug. And in reality, for me, there was a simpler solution than that.
Today, it would probably be an entirely different story, because there’s so many fragrances in our world that you have to work to keep them out. But you know, I could talk about fragrances all day, and the problems with them, but that’s not really why I’m here.
I want to go back to that whole thing about Self Powered Healing. The fragrance story is just an example of what I mean by self power healing. One way to do it is to be in tune with your body, paying attention to what happens. When something shows up, look at what has changed, look for connections. As you begin to listen, your body helps you know what’s going on.
For me, I seem to have an innate ability to know because sometimes I’ve had issues that I just knew what the cause was. I believe it’s something we all have the ability to do if we just learn how to tap into it.
So being in tune with your body is a part of self healing, you know your body better than anyone else. And when you feel like something is wrong or is causing a problem, then you need to learn to listen to that voice. That’s the simplest level of Self Powered Healing.
Healing is something that we do naturally. They say that from the moment you were born, you are healing. And if we think about it, that’s very true. When you were born, there was an umbilical cord that was cut. And so you have to heal that wound right off the bat. And you’re a baby, you don’t know how to do that, but your body does. And your body knows a lot more about healing than you have ever, ever imagined.
If you cut yourself, there’s a whole army of cells that go to work. First, you have cells that come in to take out all the opportunistic foreign invaders, that are naturally going to find that opening and try to get inside. And there are other cells within your body to heal that wound, to knit all those little skin cells back together again to close up the world.
So we can heal. And it turns out from all the stuff I’ve read and studied and learned in last several years, we are much more powerful than we can even imagine as far as healing ourselves goes. I’ve heard stories of people and I’ve known people that have healed from things that were said to be fatal. And incurable. After reading enough of it, the scale tipped to the point where I knew that it was true. It wasn’t something that people were making up. There couldn’t be this many people to say they have healed and there not be truth in it.
And after digging deeper, I’ve even found their science behind it! See, our science community only wants to believe what they have been able to prove so far. Even though science as we know it is only a few hundred years old, quite young in the grand scheme of our world. There’s more that has not been studied and proven than has been proven.
In the beginning, scientists didn’t even know about bacteria and viruses. Even though we couldn’t prove they existed, they were still there. And as time has gone on, we’ve learned more and more. When I was in college, I majored in biology, specifically microbiology. I took courses in cellular biology, genetics, physiology, parasitology microbiology, virology, immunology, and on and on. And what I’m finding today is, as I look at some of these subjects that what I learned in the 70s isn’t exactly how it really works; we’ve learned a lot in that timeframe. And so all I read and study and learn now tells me that we always need to keep an open mind to the possibilities that are out there.
I have a friend who was told she had a bone cancer and was given three years to live. She refused to accept that prognosis because she had plans for her life. Well, that was in 1998. And today, she’s an excellent health. She started with the belief that she could heal. She did not accept what the doctors were telling her and she sought out alternative treatments. That’s just one story. There are many other stories like that. In fact, there are actually databases, just full of these types of stories of healing.
I’ve also learned that emotions are believed by many to be the cause of up to 80% of chronic disease. Let that sink in. Eighty percent of chronic disease is related to our emotions. So we say they have an emotional source, but that means they originated somewhere in the past and became trapped emotions within the body. It may sound crazy, but hear me out. We’re not talking about the fact that you were sad or angry last week. It’s deep seated trauma related emotions, primarily from when we were seven to 10 years old or younger.
That trauma might not have been sexual abuse, or that you were beaten daily, or anything like that. Trauma to a young child can be much less dramatic than that. When I look back on my own life, I was teased incessantly by pretty much everyone in my family as a kid. And I really didn’t know how to handle it. And so they pushed my buttons and got a reaction. So they kept doing it. To me though it was devastating and it took me years to get beyond it. I also saw my father’s anger. It was never really expressed towards me, but there was a lot of times that he were violently angry, and I would see him throwing things. And when you’re five years old, that can be very frightening. And it can leave a lasting effect unless you can figure out a way to get past it.
There are many ways one can heal from childhood traumas. That will be something I plan to get into and much detail in this podcast. I plan to have various healers talking about their techniques for healing. And also, I want to have conversations with people who have healed. I want people to know more about that the different ways one can heal from their dis-ease. Whether it is rooted in childhood trauma or something else.
We’re all different. And so different techniques may work for different people. I believe that is why there’s so many healers and so many healing modalities. I also want to bring in conversations about what we might call miraculous healings. To me, that just means it’s a healing that science has not yet explained. But that’s in the months to come.
Self Powered Healing will come to you and seasons. You’re now listening to Episode One of Season One. I’m planning for each season to be nine or ten episodes with a few weeks between each season. In the first season, I’ll be laying down a foundation to build upon; certain topics that I want to cover at the beginning. Things like why we are resistant to healing, and the role that stress has in healing. And fear. Fear can have a huge impact in our healing. Another topic, which I’ll get into is why words matter. And there’s more. And there’s one more that that I’m planning to talk about. And it’ll probably be more than one episode. But it’s about the heart and healing the heart. I’m learning it. There’s fascinating things soon to know about the heart and its role in healing. It’s currently my favorite topic to study.
There’s one more thing I want to talk to you about today. I believe that many of the problems we have in our world, the violence, the anger, the hatred between the different groups of people, I believe it has a basis and emotional needs of people that are just not being met.
And that’s why Self Powered Healing becomes important. It’s been said that the journey of 1000 miles begins with one step. And that all change is local. And it’s usually start with one person at a time. Every change that heart happens in our world starts with one person. If you look at any revolution, there’s always one person whose name is attached to it, because they were the ones that started. So I’m not saying I’m going to start a revolution Self Powered Healing and heal the world. Although that would be a nice thing.
But I’m one person and I want to make other people aware of all that they can do. Because if we’re healthy, if we’ve healed ourselves from whatever it is that’s bothering us, if we’ve healed ourselves from the pain that slows us down and makes it hard to get through every day. If we can heal ourselves, then we can pass that on to other people. And then we can make a better world.
It’s like when you’re on an airplane and they talk about the oxygen mask. They tell you to put your own on before you put on your child’s oxygen mask. It’s all about starting with yourself. And I’m not saying that I’m perfect. Oh, far from it and I’m certainly not in perfect health. I’m a work in progress, with a lot to learn and desire to share that with others.
I hope you hang around for the season one and the seasons to come. I’m planning to have many conversations in future episodes. Perhaps you have a story of healing that you want to tell. Or maybe you’re a healer, or you know one. I’ll be looking soon to find guests to be on the podcast and I’ll keep you informed about that.
So that’s Self Powered Healing. It starts with a simple healing that we can do by understanding and paying attention to our body. And it goes on up to those things that are actually considered miraculous. You know, the best example of a miraculous healing is a woman named Anita Moorjani. In 2006, she was in a coma with end stage lymphoma. They were waiting for her to pass because they were sure that that was the only option available. She had a near death experience while she was in that coma, and when she came back, she began to heal. And a few weeks later, she walked out of the hospital and alive a very healthy today. If I can get people with those miraculous healing stories to tell on here, that would be great. But mostly it’s going to be things that can help us understand all the different things we can do to help ourselves and to heal others. So hope you come back next time.
