Are you prone to negative thinking? As in thinking of situation as hopeless? Or that what you want will never happen? Or that you just cannot do something?
Why is that negative thinking a problem?
I found a quote recently that addresses that thinking it goes like this:
“Switch your mentality from ‘I’m broken and helpless’ to, ‘I’m growing and healing’ and watch how your life changes for the better.”
As far as I could tell, the original author isn’t known. But I do like to message.
No matter what the situation, as soon as you decide that it can’t be resolved, if guarantee that it won’t be. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy. That’s the meaning behind the Henry Ford quote, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
I’m talking about where you have a situation and you’ve decided that it’s hopeless, that there’s no way to resolve it. You can’t do what you wanted to do, you can’t make that money you wanted to make, or like the quota opened with, you’ve decided that you’re broken and helpless.
What if you turn that around to “I’m growing and healing” or turn any negative around? Instead of saying it’s hopeless, believe that it’s possible. You might be surprised what happens next. Some people will tell you that the universe will align with what you say is possible and make it happen. That’s what I like to call a “woo woo” explanation. I’m not saying it’s not true. But there’s also another explanation for what happens.
Let’s suppose you decide that a situation is hopeless. You’re not likely to think about it in a positive way after that. In fact, you’ll probably remind yourself it’s hopeless every time you think about it. And if it’s something you really wanted? It will just make you angry or sad or both whenever you think about it.
What if you’re willing to believe that it just might be possible? That determination will put your subconscious to work. Whatever the situation, it will percolate in your subconscious. Ideas and possibilities will show up in your thinking. Suddenly, you might see an idea that you didn’t know about. Or you might hear something. Or you might just realize, “Oh, well, I could actually do this and it would work.” And soon that hopeless, impossible desire is on its way to becoming a reality.
It’s like the Little Engine That Could. Do remember that story? That little engine faced a hill much steeper than anything he’d ever seen before. But he was determined to climb that hill. And so all the way up that hill that little engine kept saying, “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.” And of course, he made it up the hill and down the other side.
What situation have you given up on? Why not start thinking in terms of it being possible? Give it a try and just see what shows up.
